Summer Blossom Granny Square

Image
Summer, the time of year where mother nature is at her busiest. The bees are collecting pollen, the birds are looking after their young and flowers are now in full bloom. There is also the risk of Bush fires which can destroy a lot of vegetation, but out of that destruction new life comes about. Here is Australia, many of the native plants require fire or smoke to be able to germinate. Seeing the beauty after destruction helps us appreciate nature a little more of how she can overcome adversity. Summer Blossom has been designed to be a simple granny square, but at the same time learn some new stitches along the way. With just one change, Summer Blossom is transformed, just like the burnt landscape of a bush fire coming back to life. Don't be afraid to embrace her beauty, let her encourage you. Many will say that the stitches are hard, but really they are simple. In the following pattern, there are step by step photos to help you along the way so you can emb...

Eves Secret Garden Roundup

Image
Wow! Thank you everyone that participated in Eves Secret Garden CAL . I did not expect the excitement over this crochet along, and i am so appreciative of all of your kind comments about how the pattern is written. This pattern was created by a simple idea, combining Eves journey with my favourite book as a child, The Secret Garden. Originally it was going to be one whole blanket, with different stitches as the blanket grew, but then i got the idea i wanted to include my Aunties and mum in the design ( i do apologise for not including my uncle, but this was more for the woman in my life and how they influenced me) The design consists of Eve (my late grandmother), Pam (my Auntie that can crochet), Lynda (my mum) and Janelle (my other aunty). The pattern can be made in aran/#4/10ply or dk/#3/8ply, but your more than welcome to make it in fingering/#2/4ply if you like. There are 4 sizes you can make, consisting of the following squares: Small square - 1 x Eve, 4 x Pam, 4 x ...

Rectangle Granny

Image
Recently i made a blanket for my daughter. I didn't want a traditional granny square, as she is tall. So i decided to make a rectangle. Now there are plenty of patterns and charts out there for granny rectangles, but none were appealing to me. So i sat down and created my own. This is based on how i was taught the granny square by not chaining between clusters. This pattern is addictive. Important notes This pattern has step by step photos to help you along the way. Pattern is written in US terms . This pattern can be made in any weight yarn Use the hook size that matches your yarn weight, for example dk/8ply/#3 yarn i use a 4mm hook and aran/10ply/#4 yarn i use a 5mm hook. stitches used - double crochet (treble in UK), chain, slip stitch Foundation: chain 25 (or a mutliple of 3+1) Row 1:   In the 4th chain from the hook, make 2 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet (first 3 chain counts as a stitch) Skip 2 chain, 3 do...
