All things Yarnish

Image
Yesterday was dubbed 'Natasha Day' at Yarnish . I had my debut as part of the Yarnish Makes design team with not 1 but 2 patterns! Plus the release of my very own Lola (made by Garn Manufaktur) colourway. If you have never heard of Yarnish, it is an online yarn store based in Western Sydney, Australia. Nicole owns and runs the store. The customer service is amazing! Each month they have selected Open days and sometimes there are classes people can attend to, such as weaving, Tunisian or amigurami. Grace Top - Yarnish Makes design Grace Top - Photo by Yarnish Back in August i was asked to design a top for Yarnish by Emma, head of the Yarnish makes design team. I was so excited and knew that i needed to design a summer top that was comfortable, stylish and plus sized friendly.  The design idea was to have a lacy yoke and solid body with basic shaping. I loved the look of the treble cross stitch, so i worked out how to make the stitch work for a raglan style garment ...

Summer Blossom Granny Square

Image
Summer, the time of year where mother nature is at her busiest. The bees are collecting pollen, the birds are looking after their young and flowers are now in full bloom. There is also the risk of Bush fires which can destroy a lot of vegetation, but out of that destruction new life comes about. Here is Australia, many of the native plants require fire or smoke to be able to germinate. Seeing the beauty after destruction helps us appreciate nature a little more of how she can overcome adversity. Summer Blossom has been designed to be a simple granny square, but at the same time learn some new stitches along the way. With just one change, Summer Blossom is transformed, just like the burnt landscape of a bush fire coming back to life. Don't be afraid to embrace her beauty, let her encourage you. Many will say that the stitches are hard, but really they are simple. In the following pattern, there are step by step photos to help you along the way so you can emb...

Eves Secret Garden Roundup

Image
Wow! Thank you everyone that participated in Eves Secret Garden CAL . I did not expect the excitement over this crochet along, and i am so appreciative of all of your kind comments about how the pattern is written. This pattern was created by a simple idea, combining Eves journey with my favourite book as a child, The Secret Garden. Originally it was going to be one whole blanket, with different stitches as the blanket grew, but then i got the idea i wanted to include my Aunties and mum in the design ( i do apologise for not including my uncle, but this was more for the woman in my life and how they influenced me) The design consists of Eve (my late grandmother), Pam (my Auntie that can crochet), Lynda (my mum) and Janelle (my other aunty). The pattern can be made in aran/#4/10ply or dk/#3/8ply, but your more than welcome to make it in fingering/#2/4ply if you like. There are 4 sizes you can make, consisting of the following squares: Small square - 1 x Eve, 4 x Pam, 4 x ...

New design - Harvest shawl

Image
Yay a new design! I have been thinking about this design for months and finally i was able to create what i imagined. But there is a reason behind my design, like most of my patterns. You see, i work in the rural industry and have done so on and off over the last 18 years. With the knowledge and skills in the rural industry, i wanted to dedicate this new design to the Australian farmers. For a while now, Australia has been in the grips of a severe drought. Farmers are unable to feed their livestock, or even plant a crop because they have not had the rain to sustain the ground. It is sad to hear of a farmer who has committed suicide or even had to just walk off his land because he literally can not take the hardship any longer. The banks are on their door step repossessing the property because they defaulted on their loan, or the fact they have not had an income for goodness knows how long.  But those farmers, despite the battles and hardships keep going. They k...
