Buttonnose Crochet

Well it is only a week until 2016 is over and with the festive season only 2 days away i would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year. 2016 has been a roller coaster of highs and lows, but mostly highs. In June i decided to change my Facebook page from Natasha's Crochet Creations to Buttonnose Designs. Then in November i tweaked the name to Buttonnose Crochet, so there were no confusion to what my name represents. Buttonnose comes from a nick name i gave my daughter when she was born. She had a cute little button nose, just like me. 10 years ago she was the miracle that entered my life, not knowing what struggle it would be to conceive in years to come. She is my strength and pillar. Loving a child is endless, especially when they become your miracle baby. I do have hopes to have another child without IVF but i have a 5 to 20% chance of that happening. In the meantime, i cherish every moment i have with my daughter. Butto...

It is the summer school holidays here in Australia, and any parent can relate that there are so many activities a child will do before they say "I am bored Mum", usually in a time frame of 1 day. For a while i had planned to dye some yarn with my daughter as a colour experiment during the holidays. So i done some research on how to dye yarn, as i had never done it before. It was interesting to find some really helpful sites and how to make chemical free yarn dyes. Two great sites are  DaisyHead Creations  and  Knitty Once i had my research gathered, i took advantage of the Knit Picks sale and bought some Bare wool of the Andes in sport weight. These hanks are quite affordable for someone that wants to dye their own yarn as an experiment or fun with the kids. Each hank has a total of 474 yards/250 meters, which is plenty to make a nice scarf like The Day trip scarf by Zooty owl. Yay a new design! I have been thinking about this design for months and finally i was able to create what i imagined. But there is a reason behind my design, like most of my patterns. You see, i work in the rural industry and have done so on and off over the last 18 years. With the knowledge and skills in the rural industry, i wanted to dedicate this new design to the Australian farmers. For a while now, Australia has been in the grips of a severe drought. Farmers are unable to feed their livestock, or even plant a crop because they have not had the rain to sustain the ground. It is sad to hear of a farmer who has committed suicide or even had to just walk off his land because he literally can not take the hardship any longer. The banks are on their door step repossessing the property because they defaulted on their loan, or the fact they have not had an income for goodness knows how long.  But those farmers, despite the battles and hardships keep going. When deciding on colours for a project, it can be daunting, frustrating and stressful. We seem to be drawn to certain colours because they make us happy, content or even excited. For Example, i like blue, purple, aqua and neutrals. These colours are soothing and relaxing to me. But sometimes we are asked to make an item for someone in a colour we totally dislike. For me it is black (not that it is classed as a colour) and brights. These colours basically hurt my eyes (i have astigmatism in both eyes and i am night blind, so i don't usually work with dark colours) When i asked on my giveaway post what your favourite colour was, there were so many different responses, and it prompted me to get my colour sticks out of my Stylecraft Special DK and have a play with combinations.
